Quick answer: Skin allergies don’t shorten a dog’s lifespan. Most allergic dogs live normal lives. But poorly controlled allergies can seriously affect quality of life: constant itching, disrupted sleep, recurring skin and ear infections, and chronic ear disease that may eventually need surgery. With a good management plan, most allergic dogs are comfortable.
