Shaking is a visible sign with many possible explanations. A young dog may shiver from cold or fear, while persistent tremors can occur with illness, pain, toxin exposure, or neurologic problems. It is not safe to choose a sedative or home remedy before understanding what is happening.
Watch awareness and movement
Is your puppy able to look at you, walk normally, and respond to familiar sounds during the episode? Or are they unresponsive, stiffening, falling over, or jerking repeatedly? A puppy that collapses, seizes, has breathing difficulty, or cannot stand needs emergency veterinary attention.
Consider recent events
Think about the last meal, possible contact with household cleaners or human medication, recent flea treatments, heat or cold exposure, and whether the shaking began after a frightening event. Young or toy-breed puppies may be especially vulnerable to problems linked with inadequate food intake, but only proper evaluation can establish the cause.
What should you do now?
Move a cold puppy into a warm, dry, quiet space, without applying direct high heat. If the puppy is having a seizure, clear nearby hazards and do not restrain the mouth or force liquid into it. If poisoning is possible, save the product packaging and contact an emergency veterinarian or animal poison service promptly.
What may happen at the clinic?
The veterinarian may check temperature, blood glucose, hydration, pain, and neurologic function. The appropriate tests depend on age and other symptoms. Treatment of a seizure or toxin exposure cannot be provided safely by ordinary telehealth.
When video advice helps
After a brief episode has completely resolved and the puppy is otherwise normal, a veterinarian may use a recording to discuss the next steps. Seek in-person care if it recurs or if any other sign of illness develops.
